Sophia Tze-Wen Kung, M.D.

Dr. Sophia Kung is a graduate of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) earning her B.S. in Mechanical Engineering in 1991. She remained at MIT and earned her M.S. degree in Mechanical Engineering in 1993. Dr. Kung earned her M.D. degree from McGill University School of Medicine, Montreal, Quebec in 1999. 

After an internship in internal medicine (1999-2000) at St. Luke’s Roosevelt Medical Center, New York, NY, Dr. Kung received radiology residency training (2000-2004) in Diagnostic Radiology at Columbia University Medical College/New York-Presbyterian Hospital.  Dr. Kung was elected as Radiology Chief Resident in 2003-2004. After completing residency training, Dr. Kung remained at Columbia University Medical College/NYPH for a Fellowship in Nuclear Medicine in 2004-2005.

Dr. Kung has achieved Board Certification in two specialties: in Diagnostic Radiology from the American Board of Radiology in 2004 and in Nuclear Medicine from the American Board of Nuclear Medicine in 2006.

In July 2005 Dr. Kung was recruited to the full-time faculty of Weill Cornell Medical College and was appointed Assistant Professor of Radiology and Assistant Attending Radiologist at the New York-Presbyterian Hospital-Weill Cornell Campus.   Dr. Kung is a member of Weill Cornell Imaging at NYP, outpatient imaging practices and performs abdominal imaging as well as Nuclear Medicine exams. She performs a wide variety of studies including MRI, CT, ultrasound and has expertise in PET imaging and in Nuclear Medicine studies including thyroid studies and therapy.

Dr. Kung is an active clinician and teacher and serves as mentor to radiology residents and fellows and nuclear medicine residents and fellows.
