Michael P. Herman, M.D.
Urology
Dr. Herman joined the Department of Urology full-time in July 2011 as an Instructor in Urology/Assistant Attending in Urology. Dr. Herman completed his BA at Harvard, his MD at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center, and his residency rotation here at Weill Cornell Medical College.
During his residency, Dr. Herman won Physician of the Year, New York-Presbyterian Hospital (2008), First place for AUA/Gyrus Prize Essay Contest (2009), and the Distinguished Housestaff Award, New York-Presbyterian Hospital (2010).
Dr. Herman maintains active research support with the NIH as a co-investigator on research exploring the preliminary application of multiphoton microscopy in prostate cancer, while collaborating with Dr. Ash Tewari. He also maintains an active presence as a journal reviewer for European Urology and the British Journal of Urology International.
Dr. Herman continues to publish research and at this time has co-authored 16 peer-reviewed journal articles, three book chapters, and multiple abstracts. His current research interests include comparative effectiveness research within prostate cancer and his research is highly collaborative, working with multiple institutions on population-based research. His collaborators within Weill Cornell Medical College include Drs. Tewari, Scherr, Shariat (all within the Department of Urology) and Dr. Robinson (Department of Pathology).
In addition to his current research activities, Dr. Herman is pursuing a Master's degree in Clinical Investigation and is interested in facilitating clinical research throughout the department. He will also be working very closely with Drs. Shemtov, David, and Shariat in residency training and education, including incorporating a robotic simulator.
When he is not at the hospital, Dr. Herman enjoys cooking, music, hiking, and other outdoor activities. He and his wife just welcomed their second daughter into their family on the 4th of July, so this is indeed an exciting time for their family!
