Mary C. Olson, D.N.P., A.N.P.
In today’s complicated and demanding world of health care, I am fortunate to be able to contribute to a vital area of research – hepatitis C. Over the years, I have been gratified to find that my efforts and those of my team have had a positive impact on the lives of many of our patients.
Mary C. Olson, DNP, ANP-BC, is the Research Nurse Manager for The Center for the Study of Hepatitis C in the Division of Gastroenterology and Hepatology. She also holds a faculty appointment at Weill Cornell Medical College. In her current position, she is responsible for the care of patients with liver diseases and the conduct of clinical trials. She was also a principal investigator for a nursing research study that evaluated patient follow up after screening for hepatitis C. In addition, she is an adult psychiatric mental health clinical nurse specialist, having worked in mental health programs as a registered nurse and as a clinical nurse specialist prior to becoming a nurse practitioner. She began her career as an adult nurse practitioner in primary care and then moved to her current career focus in hepatology, specifically hepatitis C research. It has always been her interest to address the psychological aspects of illness that may shape a person’s response to a medical condition or treatment.
Olson received her bachelor of nursing degree from St. Olaf College, Northfield, MN, where she received departmental distinction. She received her masters of science in nursing from Columbia University, New York, NY and her adult nurse practitioner certificate from the College of Mount St. Vincent, Riverdale, NY. In 2011, she earned her doctor of nursing practice from George Washington University, Washington, DC.
She is a member of the American Association for the Study of Liver Diseases and a member of the Association of Clinical Research Professionals. She is co-author with I.M. Jacobson, M.D. of “Role of the Nurse Practitioner in the Management of Patients with Chronic Hepatitis C” published in Journal of American Academy of Nurse Practitioners.
